Location: Torrance, Los Angeles - Department: Web Content Creation

This job / position / career is one of our core positions, and requires a stable, professional and passionate person. Your skills can make or break this position, and either really help us grow, or set us back a great deal so we take it extremely seriously and we need you to as well.

Interested? Let us explain.

None of our positions are "sales", everyone here needs to be in production. We don't, however, just have "coders". We have contents creators that can do HTML / CSS, or Photoshop and Illustrator.

Who you are:
1. A person with skills than lend themselves to being an online contents creator including strong creative and research writing skills, a superior ability to parse information and rewrite it in an informative and creative way for end-users, and HTML & CSS.
2. A funny person. Clever works too. A meme lover. A giggler.
3. The person who wants this job the most.
4. Maybe a beginner, but you are able to answer questions about the HTML / CSS source code on a responsive website that you've coded by hand either as a hobby or on the job and you understand that we'll ask you to do exactly that at the interview; pull up source code you've written and answer basic HTML questions.
5. A person who understands that saying "Sure, I'm interested in HTML", but who has never actually done any HTML on their own probably doesn't actually know if they're interested in HTML or not. You don't have to be an expert, but if you've never, of your own volition tried writing or HTML / CSS, chances are, you're not passionate enough about it to have a career in it here.

Let us put this in a different, and rather blunt way; We're a boutique company and every single day and every single person counts. If you're just "trying on" careers at this point, and think "Internet Content Creator / HTML Developer" sounds like a cool title but haven't taken the actual work for a spin even if it's just on your own, we can't risk the time / training it takes for you to figure out if more than the title appeals to you. We're glad to take a risk on unproven talent, but you'll have to have gotten yourself into the race already for us to know you're on a course that matches. In other words, we don't invest in people who haven't invested in themselves.

How to apply: This is the first round interview!

1. We need your resume as text in the body of an email or as a link online; no attachment files will be accepted.

2. Put "[ACE] HTML-WRITER-(last name)" in the subject line of your email.

3. Next, Link the BEST of your HTML, CSS, Responsive web, written contents, and tell us why it was effective, or not.

4. Tell us how many hours you're looking for, from when, and your current and desired hourly salary.

5. Tell us a skill you've spent a great deal of time attaining, (it doesn't have to be job related, it can be a sport, artistic skill, language), let us know what walls and obstacles you've faced attaining the skill, what your current level of that skill is, and how you got better at it, or why you gave up.

6. Tell us what you think a small to mid-sized business is looking for in an employee. Tell us what you think the differences are between a boutique business and large corporations.

7. Please tell us how you've invested in yourself to make you be more likely to get the job you want.

8. Tell us what your passion is, and what drives you in life.

9. Pretend we're a band.
9a. What is your role in our band?
9b. Now pretend you've injured whatever part of your body you need to play that role in our band. What do you do?

10. Please tell us what you think we're trying to learn about you with these questions. ("We" can be any small or mid-sized business.) To explain a little, we're asking you to be us, the company hiring, investing in a person to help make sure we all have jobs and salaries that fulfill us as human beings. We're looking for introspection here. Are you able to analyze and understand what is most needed from you in this environment? Do you offer it?

Who will hate this job?
1. People who hate / aren't interested in HTML, the internet, humor, and how information is spread on the internet.
2. People who think work should be like school except that now they get paid to learn.
3. People who like a job because it's easy and they can coast.
4. People more interested in being a tiny part of a adequately done big thing rather than being a huge part of a new thing.
5. People who think there is / people who are more comfortable with one "right" answer to a great yawning abyss of potential.
6. People who don't want a huge amount of responsibility for the success of the end-product.
7. People who applied for this job but couldn't be bothered to read all the way here to #7.
8. People who applied for this job but couldn't be bothered to read all the way here to #8.

Location: Torrance, Los Angeles - Department: Marketing

Part-time / 1099 unless paired with other skill-set / position

Interested? Let us explain.

We are a company that is never interested in doing things everybody else can do and does. There's no real point and it's no fun for us. Right now, we're focusing on viral marketing because it's fun, effective, fresh and can be absolutely creative as well as be an incredible value to our clients. Are you interested? Want to try?

We are currently looking for someone to join / head up our viral marketing department who wants a real chance to do exactly what they want to do online for our clients. We don't mean a person who has made videos and uploaded them to Youtube and gotten no views and left it at that or a person who will studiously submit spammy links of stuff we've done to Reddit, we mean a full package real deal amazingly creative but needs work / clients for whom to do that work person. We need a person who wants the platform on which to perform and the audience for which to perform but who is ready for their performance.

We don't give you the script, just the stage and stagehands to an extent; it's your show, and you'll also need to care about bringing in an audience.

Who you are:
1. A person with skills than lend themselves to being a viral marketer but that also make a company like ours hire them: HTML, CSS, Photoshop, Visual Editing, filming, comedy writing or any other professional skill that earns a living in our industry
2. A funny person. Clever works too. A meme lover perhaps.
3. The person who wants this job the most.

How to apply: This is both easy and amazingly hard.

1. We need your resume as text in the body of an email or as a link online; no attachment files will be accepted. Please put "[ACE] VIRAL-CONTENTS-CREATOR-(last name)" in the subject line of your email to us.

2. Next, wow us with your talent / humor / viral potential. In other words, show us anything at all that says "Hi, I'm interested in creating content that gets seen, and this is what I've done" instead of coming in and saying "I've done nothing on my own to figure out if I'm really interested in it, but if you give me money, I'll sit here 8 hours a day and see if I actually enjoy it or not"

---Will you make a Facebook page that gets 10,000 "likes" telling us to hire you?

---Will you make an application video that gets 100,000 views on Youtube?

---We guess you could do something twitter (but we might not notice it), or imgur, or Reddit or really just about anything as long as you make us notice you in a good way and it's interesting or fun / funny for everyone involved.

---If you're strapped for ideas you could come up with a viral idea for one of our in-house shops and testing grounds such as the not-naturally viral: www.massager-machines-and-more.com

---Or if you're into really low hanging fruit you could do something for the naturally viral www.artisansocks.com that had an image catch fire online thanks to bloggers, a great in-house photographer and a pretty girl's legs. (2011's viral shark socks)

Here's the thing though, while some of our clients' products will be fun or funny like the socks, for the most part they aren't and you're going to need to be comfortable coming up with original fun ideas to market some fairly serious products. You'll be valued as a partner, get the fame you deserve personally rather than having others take credit for it and make your share of the profits. That's the job, if you really want it, it's yours.

Who will hate this job?
1. People who hate / aren't interested in the internet, humor, and how information is spread on the internet.
2. People who think work should be like school except that you now get paid to learn.
3. People who like a job because it's easy and they can coast.
4. People more interested in being a tiny part of a adequately done big thing rather than being a huge part of a new thing. (How many campaigns for big companies do you see online that DON'T make you cringe? That Whole Foods viral rap and the Sears zombie thing maybe, but not many more..)
5. People who think there is / people who are more comfortable with one "right" answer to a great yawning abyss of potential.
6. People who don't want a huge amount of responsibility for the success of the end-product.

The application is absolutely our first round interview, if you're interested, please read the process carefully.

We're looking for a special head customer service / shop management / office manager who will help take our businesses to the next level, wants to stay in one place for a while, and has the ability to be a big fish in a big pond. This is a career; we don't use the word "associate", it's not that kind of "career", we mean a real career if you put your heart into it. And we need heart. Showing up isn't the job, being here and passively answering a phone call when it comes in isn't the job, doing the job creatively and to the best of your abilities, with an eye on improvement is.

You will be entirely responsible for:

  • Flawless shop customer service. You need to make people happy without giving away the farm.

Both sites are being renewed now and you'll help us with the renewal aspect as well. (You'll be part of helping us make our new site, if this doesn't excite you a little, this job's probably not for you.)
  • Effectively communicating with customers by phone / e-mail / fax / Sales support (taking phone orders, explaining shop policies, explaining product lineups etc. honestly and as an honest and competent professional; this isn't a hard-sell slick sales position.)
  • Handling billing / invoicing / finances related to the shop business
  • Some element of shop content creation; finding new products before they've gone viral, photographing / editing images / writing catch for the pages, or any number of creatives as well.

  • *People interested in the following are more likely to find this job rewarding / fun:*
  • Purchasing (Searching for new items to carry on our shops)
  • eCommerce / online shopping

  • Candidates with at least a 4 year degree, or equal relevant office experience
  • Mad skills in Microsoft Office and the Internet are necessary to do this job well, so if you don't have them coming into the job, you'll have to get them as quickly as possible.
  • You must be the type of person who is humble but driven, takes pride in the quality of their work, and understands that avoidable mistakes can REALLY cost a business. Accountability is key; You are not a cog here, you're an irreplaceable part of our team. In return, we need to to understand that too. What you do truly affects our business and you along with it.
